Austin and Jack display their slope medals |
OMS traveled to Mount Snow to compete in the the first USASA slope and pipe events this past weekend. Saturday's slope event went off with a great set-up, soft conditions, and cool temps. Amanda Burnham rode well in her first freestyle event of the year with some solid straight airs and a couple of nose and boardslides on the boxes. Amanda landed in 5th place in her division. Jack Valentine had a shaky start to the day and was trying to figure out the correct speed on the jumps in practice and on his first run. Yet, he totally redeemed himself by stomping a clean run 2nd run (there are only two) with a 50/50 to a noseslide and into a back 3 followed by a backside 540. The run put Jack on the podium with a 3rd place finish. Austin Hawkes continued to ride super well and won his age group and his run consisted of a lipslide to fakie, switch lip-regular, and a front 540 to a clean cab 5 to end his run. Last but not least, Emmett Ellmaker rode well and landed in 5th place with a front lip 270 out, to a boardslide, and followed by a back 3 to a frontside corked 7 off the money booter.
Onto Sunday's pipe event: Jack Valentine, who has had a 1 year hiatus from competing in the pipe due to an injury, rode very well with little practice and blasted some nice straight airs and back to back 3's to put him in the top 5. Emmett Ellmaker took a solid 4th and a tough age bracket with a run that consisted of some high airs, a couple 3's, and a frontside 5. Austin Hawkes took home the bacon in his division and had a great run with some chest-high straight airs, back to back 3's, a 5, and a mctwist to cap it off.
Nice work guys!
