OMS Snowboarding // Know Your History: Jeff Brushie

OMS Snowboarders are dedicated and passionate about the Sport, so therefore Jerry and I have put it upon our athletes to know a little bit more about the history of snowboarding and on the old school shredders who paved the way.  We have picked one OG snowboarder and have asked each OMS snowboarder to do some research and gain a little more historical knowledge on the legends of snowboarding.  Third up, Jeff Brushie written by OMS Snowboarder Jack Valentine.

JEFF BRUSHIE

A while back in 1986, a legend by the name of Jeff Brushie started riding on a Burton Elite 140 that he got for christmas.  He first started riding on a local sledding hill in Bolton Valley, Vermont.  Then he took his shredding to the pipe and pow at local ski resorts and then realized that snowboarding was meant for him.  Jeff then started competing in events across the country riding for Burton, Cappel, Gordini Goggles, and Casio G-Shock.  Brushie had two pro models with Burton; the Brushie in 1993, and the Brushie in 1995 and was know for his infamous dreadlocks.  His first pro model had a fish on it because it reminded him of hunting and fishing back home in Vermont. Later on, Jeff left Burton and went to Ride Snowboards.  He didn’t want to leave Burton, but Ride had an awesome offer and he couldn’t pass it up.  Burton wouldn’t match it.  At one point in his career he was #1 in the world for pipe.  Brushie had a very successful snowboarding career in both racing and freestyle.  Today he judges major events such as the X-Games, plays poker, and builds and sells homes.  Jeff only likes to go ride on the perfect days and do big straight airs through the pipe.
